Belgian-Moroccan, Mourad Laachraoui has won a gold medal at the European Taekwondo Championships in Montreux, Switzerland in the -54kg category.

The 21 year-old beat Spaniard Tortosa Jesus Cabrera 6-3 in the -54kg final on Thursday evening.

Mourad is a silver medallist at the Summer Universiades in 2015, and has qualified for the Rio Olympics in August.

Mourad Laachraoui is the brother Najim Laachraoui (24), one of the suicide bombers who blew themselves up in March 22 at Zaventem airport in Brussels.

Two days after the attacks, Mourad gave a press conference in which he distanced himself from the alleged actions of his brother saying that he had no contact with him since 2013, when he left for Syria.
