According to the French Ministry of Justice, there are 1895 Moroccan nationals currently held in prisons across France.
This makes the Moroccan nationality the second most represented nationality among prison population in France.
Algerian nationality topped the list with around 1954 Algerian nationals currently held in prison by France.
Out of the total prison population in France, which the French Ministry of Justice estimates at 69,077 individuals, some 14,964 foreign nationals are currently held in French prisons.
Romanians (1496 inmates) and Tunisians (1002 prisoners) are third and the fourth most represented nationalities.
