According to the latest figures, 440 Moroccans have died outside Morocco from the effects of the corona virus.
The figures were reported by the Moroccan Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Nouzha El Ouafi, the delegated minister responsible for Moroccans living abroad (MRE).
The death toll among Moroccan diaspora is more than twice the number of corona deaths in Morocco. To date, 192 people have died from COVID-19 in Morocco.
El Ouafi released the figures at a meeting of the ministerial committee charged with monitoring the conditions of Moroccan diaspora. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 113 requests were made in early May for funeral expenses.
The figures have been compiled on the basis of death reports that have been reported to the Moroccan diplomatic network. The actual number is likely to be much higher as not all the deaths have been reported to Moroccan consular service abroad.
